Daycare worker charged with child sex crime worked at Butler Community College

A daycare worker at Butler Community College and member of a statewide board for young children has been arrested and charged with a sex crime.

Brent Martin, assistant director at EduCare Daycare Center, was arrested and charged on suspicion of aggravated indecent liberties with a child after police were notified Sunday about an alleged crime that happened five years ago at the center, the El Dorado Police Department said in a Thursday news release. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said Martin was released from jail on Wednesday.

“The individual arrested was involved in multiple community organizations where he came into contact with children,” the police department said.

Director of BCC Relations and Marketing Kelly Snedden confirmed Martin is a board member with the Kansas Association for the Education of Young Children. Snedden said Martin’s position at the college is part-time. She said the college was notified Tuesday about Martin’s arrest.

“(Martin) has been placed on immediate suspension without pay,” Snedden said in a news release. “College administration is cooperating fully with local authorities.”

The daycare has been closed since March 23 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she said.

Police asked if anyone has information about the case or believes their child is a victim to contact Detective Kayla Gatz at 316-322-4498 or e-mail at Kgatz@eldoks.com.
