Accused rapist held knife to girlfriend’s neck before being captured, Wichita police say
An accused rapist allegedly held a knife to his girlfriend’s neck during a domestic violence incident before he was arrested by Wichita police.
Officers responded to a call for police at around 5 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 3000 block of North Porter, department spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. The officers heard a disturbance inside the home, looked in a window and saw 54-year-old Horace Lee Gwyn Jr. holding a woman hostage.
He had a knife to her neck and was threatening to harm her if police entered the home, Davidson said. The officers spoke with Gwyn through the window and tried to deescalate the situation.
Then the woman, later identified as Gwyn’s girlfriend, screamed.
“The officers thought the female was being injured, feared for her life, and forced entry into the home,” Davidson said. “Gwyn released his girlfriend and jumped out of a window in an attempt to flee, but was arrested after being Tased by an officer on the scene.”
Police said the girlfriend had minor cuts to her neck and chest and Gwyn had no injuries.
Sedgwick County Jail inmate records show Gywn was arrested on suspicion of rape, domestic violence battery, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, criminal threat, obstructing law enforcement and battery of a law enforcement officer. He is also being held on charges of aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery in a separate case.
