Wichita man charged with killing girlfriend, daughter has been arrested

A Wichita man charged with killing his girlfriend and their daughter has been captured, jail records show.

Daniel Oswaldo Lopez, 25, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at around 11:42 p.m. Friday. He was arrested on suspicion of capital murder with more than one victim, criminal possession of a gun, aggravated assault and two probation violations.

His bond on the murder charge was set at $1 million, and each probation violation has a $250,000 bond.

In a statement issued just after midnight Saturday morning, Officer Kevin Wheeler said Lopez was arrested without incident at the home of family members in the 4600 block of South Gold.

“The Wichita Police Department extends its gratitude to the community for its support and assistance during this investigation,” Wheeler said.

Wichita police previously said Lopez was wanted in connection to the shooting deaths of 24-year-old MicKayla Sorell, his girlfriend, and their 8-year-old daughter, Natalya Sorell. Officers were first called on March 30 to check the welfare of the mother after she did not show up to work. They were dead when police arrived at a home in the 4500 block of South Walnut.

Sedgwick County District Court records connected to the alleged probation violation accuse the boyfriend of killing them both two days before their bodies were found. Police have said Lopez is charged with murder.

The probation violation warrant also alleges Lopez forced someone to drive him around at gunpoint on March 28. A police report wasn’t filed until the day after cops announced the suspected domestic violence slayings.
