Pittsburg man, 29, in jail after he told 911 he shot and killed his dad

A 29-year-old Pittsburg man is in jail and facing a possible murder charge after he called 911 saying he’d shot his father, according to a news release from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the victim, 53-year-old David M. Buckley of Pittsburg, was discovered dead inside of the home at 1313 W. Atkinson after his son, Michael J. Woodson, reported the shooting shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday.

Law enforcement officers arrested Woodson at the address and took him to the Crawford County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, the release said.

“We are still investigating the facts of what led to the event,” Crawford County Sheriff Danny Smith said by email when asked about a motive. The investigation was ongoing Monday, he said.

The Pittsburg Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Crawford County Emergency Medical Services responded to the homicide scene.
