Man jailed for string of early-morning home burglaries in north Webb area, police say
Wichita police jailed a 26-year-old man suspected of carrying out a string of early-morning home burglaries in neighborhoods in the north Webb Road area last Thursday.
Tyler Addison Cline of Wichita was arrested on suspicion of three counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of theft, possession of stolen property and for active warrants, the Wichita Police Department said in a news release. Court records show Cline has been in and out of jail in recent months for violating his probation in two 2018 cases — including one where he pointed a gun at a car leaving a west Wichita Dillons parking lot. The last time he posted bail was in late March.
Police say Cline’s latest alleged crime spree started when he broke into a house in the 9000 block of East Shannon Woods Ct., near 29th and Webb, around 12:15 a.m. Thursday and stole several items while the people who lived there were at home.
A little more than two hours later — at 2:40 a.m. — authorities received a call about Cline allegedly stealing a Honda CRV from an attached garage in the 10,000 block of East 19th Street North, near Webb, while four adults were home, police said. Officers later found the car in the 3000 block of West Douglas.
By 5:30 a.m., police say Cline had moved on to a house in the 10,000 block of East Windemere Ct., near 21st and Webb, where he allegedly stole personal property and tools from inside an attached garage while the residents were home.
“Through diligent investigation, long hours and teamwork, Officers determined Cline’s alleged involvement in each burglary. He was located and arrested following a short foot pursuit in the area of Richmond and Douglas on Friday, April 3rd,” Officer Paul Cruz wrote in an emailed news release.
Police are still investigating the crimes and plan to present the cases to the local district attorney’s office for prosecution, the news release said.
Cline remained in the Sedgwick County Jail on Monday in lieu of $150,000 bond. Two-thirds of that amount is connected to alleged probation violations in two 2018 cases where Cline was convicted of home burglary, fleeing from an officer, heroin possession and aggravated assault. He has a history of break ins, thefts and drug paraphernalia possession convictions that stretch back into his childhood, according to court records.
