Wichita driver charged with involuntary manslaughter in deadly DUI crash arrested again
A driver charged with killing a Wichita woman in a suspected drunk-driving crash has been arrested again after he continued to drink alcohol in violation of his bond, court documents show.
Jeremy Deshawn Crowder is charged in Sedgwick County District Court with involuntary manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and two counts of aggravated battery from a DUI crash that caused bodily harm.
The case stems from the death of 57-year-old Yvonne Recchio and injury of two other people in a March 19, 2019, wreck at Kellogg and Webb. Wichita police said at the the time that alcohol was suspected to be a contributing factor after a GMC Yukon Denali collided with a Honda CRV, in which Recchio was a passenger. Officers said that the other patients had minor injuries.
Crowder was formally charged in August, but was arrested again on Monday.
A judge had revoked his bond earlier this month after a supervision officer reported that Crowder violated one of the conditions of his bond — that he not possess, use or consume alcohol or drugs unless prescribed by a licensed physician. His SCRAM bracelet, which is an alcohol monitor, indicated a “confirmed alcohol consumption event” Feb. 16-17, court records show.
His new bond was set at $1 million with pretrial supervision, including SCRAM monitoring.
