Police arrest suspected carjackers who robbed Wichitan at gunpoint as she sold used car
Wichita police have arrested a couple suspected of carjacking a woman who was selling her used car.
Deandre Gilkey, 25, and Samantha Thompson, 21, were arrested Tuesday in the 200 block of South Hillside, Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release.
Police were called at around 9 p.m. on Saturday to a carjacking report at a residence in the 1300 block of North Green, Davidson said. A 50-year-old woman reported that she was in the process of selling a green 2006 Ford Focus to Thompson when she noticed that Gilkey, Thompon’s boyfriend, was inside her home.
The woman confronted Gilkey, who pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her, Davidson said. Gilkey took the keys to the car, and he and his girlfriend drove away in the vehicle.
Investigators were aided by tips from the community and found the couple three days later, arresting them without further incident. During the arrest, officers recovered a gun and illegal drugs.
Gilkey was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, possessing methamphetamine, possessing marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia, being a felon in possession of a firearm and an outstanding warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections. Thompson was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and marijuana possession.
Gilkey absconded from community corrections on Feb. 10, KDOC records show. He was serving a sentence from 2019 convictions in Sedgwick County District Court of aggravated assault, criminal threat, criminal possession of a weapon, domestic battery, criminal damage to property and attempt to flee or elude law enforcement.
