Former administrator of Kansas town who had child porn at work sentenced to prison
The former city administrator of a southeast Kansas town has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after investigators traced child pornography to his work and home.
Michael P. Ohrt, 40, of Fredonia, was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Wichita to 90 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said in a news release. Ohrt, who was formerly the Fredonia city administrator, pleaded guilty to one count of transporting child porn.
A grand jury had originally indicted Ohrt on four charges related to child porn in 2016 and 2017.
Ohrt’s criminal activity was caught by Dropbox after he used his email to upload videos of child porn to his account, under the username “Mike Mike,” according to a narrative in his plea deal. Dropbox identified the videos as child porn and reported them, as well as account information and IP addresses.
The investigation led law enforcement to Ohrt’s home and work, where they seized a smartphone, two laptops and a tablet computer that were used in the crime.
