Wichita police net five DUI arrests, write several tickets in post-Super Bowl patrol
A citywide saturation patrol targeting intoxicated motorists following the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl win netted five arrests for driving under the influence.
Wichita police officers taking part in the grant-funded effort also wrote “multiple citations for 39 various traffic violations,” department spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said. The patrol started at 10 p.m. Sunday and stretched into early Monday morning.
Officers also monitored Wichita’s Old Town entertainment district during and after Sunday’s football game but reported no major incidents or arrests.
Davidson said the efforts helped “make sure everyone had a safe celebration” of the Chiefs first Super Bowl appearance — and victory — in 50 years.
