Wichita dad charged with hurting his twin 2-month-old children

A Wichita father has been charged with beating his twin 2-month-old babies.

Marlin D. Williams Jr., 22, was charged Tuesday in Sedgwick County District Court with three counts of aggravated battery. The dates of the alleged crimes were between Dec. 10 and Dec. 25, between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and on Friday.

Williams was arrested by Wichita police after officers were called Friday to a home in the 2800 block of South Emporia for a child who was not breathing.

Police found a 2-month-old boy, and he was taken to a hospital. Medical personnel found that he had critical internal injuries. Investigators determined the boy had both new and old injuries, and that his twin sister had a healing broken femur.

Both children remained hospitalized on Monday, and police did not provide an update on their condition on Tuesday.

Williams is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

The case was one of two over the weekend involving men arrested on suspicion of abusing children, police Capt. Brent Allred said. There was one child death case in 2016, two in 2017, three in 2018 and four in 2019.

“We’ve had a few over the last couple years, and it’s very well possible that these two could turn into a child fatality, too,” Allred said of the two cases.
