Kansas man accused of slitting sister’s ex-boyfriend’s neck charged with murder

Prosecutors on Wednesday charged a 24-year-old Pittsburg man with second-degree intentional murder after his sister’s ex-boyfriend died from what police have called a “severe laceration to his neck.”

Wichita police said Monday that Morgan Lee Prager fled from a home in the 200 block of North Spruce after he slit 19-year-old Vincent C. Venturella’s neck with a knife at around 5 p.m. Saturday. Authorities have said the attack happened during a fight over Prager’s sister.

Authorities arrested Prager in Pittsburg later. Venturella died Monday.

Prager made a first appearance in a Wichita courtroom Wednesday afternoon, where he was formally charged with second-degree murder in Venturella’s killing and with criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, Sedgwick County District Court records show. He has prior convictions for theft and criminal possession of a firearm in Wyandotte County in 2016, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Prager’s next court date is Jan. 30. He remains in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
