Wichitan admits to driving getaway car in 4 gas station robberies in less than an hour

A Wichita man has admitted to driving the getaway car in a series of four gas station robberies that happened in less than an hour.

Shaiquille Harris, 26, pleaded guilty on Monday to four counts of robbery and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said in a news release.

Harris admitted in his plea that he drove the getaway car in a series of robberies of Kwik Shop convenience stores at 710 W. 29th Street North, 3959 S. Hydraulic and 3601 E. 47th Street West and a QuikTrip at 2821 E. 31st Street South.

Wichita police said in a news release after the men were arrested that the four robberies happened between about 7:45 p.m. and about 8:35 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2018. No injuries were reported in any of the cases. The two robbers made off with about $850 from the night of crime, court records state.

Harris’s sentencing is scheduled for April 13, and he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each robbery count and up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the gun crime charge. Prosecutors have also filed for the forfeiture of a Canik pistol and ammunition Harris had in his possession when he was arrested.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Harris has prior felony convictions in Sedgwick County of flee and elude and interference with law enforcement in 2017.
