Wichita police arrest father accused of beating twin babies, hospitalizing them
Wichita police have arrested a father on suspicion of beating two twin babies.
Emergency crews were called at around noon Friday to a home in the 2800 block of South Emporia for a child who was not breathing, Wichita police Capt. Brent Allred said.
Police found a 2-month-old boy, and he was taken to a hospital. Medical personnel found that he had critical internal injuries. Allred said investigators determined the boy had both new and old injuries, and that his twin sister had a healing broken femur. Both children remain hospitalized.
Two other children, a 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, were found at the home uninjured. They were placed in police protective custody.
Marlin Williams, 22, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of three counts of aggravated battery in connection to the case. The investigation is ongoing.
The case was one of two over the weekend involving men arrested on suspicion of abusing children. Allred said there was one child death case in 2016, two in 2017, three in 2018 and four in 2019.
“We’ve had a few over the last couple years, and it’s very well possible that these two could turn into a child fatality, too,” Allred said of the two cases.
