Robbers force Wichita car wash worker to hand over cash from coin machines, safe
Robbers forced a Wichita car wash worker to turn over cash from coin machines and an office safe during an armed holdup at closing time Thursday.
Wichita police say two masked men ordered the Zips Car Wash employee to retrieve the money at gunpoint. Officer Kevin Wheeler said the employee was closing the car wash location at 7931 E. 37th St. North at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday when the men got out of an silver SUV in the parking lot — one armed with a gun — and demanded money. The employee complied with their orders.
After getting cash, the robbers got back into the SUV and were last seen driving east toward the intersection of 37th North and Rock Road, Wheeler said.
The employee wasn’t hurt. The car wash chain’s locations in Wichita close at 8 p.m., according Zips’ website.
Police are still looking for the robbers. One is described as a black man, about 6-foot to 6-foot-3 and thin, who was wearing a black hoodie under a short-sleeved white shirt, black pants, black gloves and a black ski mask.
The second robber is described as a black man, about 5-foot-10 and thin, who was wearing a green-and-white plaid button-up shirt, black pants, black gloves and a black ski mask.
