Wichitan arrested on suspicion of murder in shooting police think is drug-related

Wichita police have arrested a suspected murderer after a deadly shooting that investigators believe was drug-related.

Carver Khalid Soliman, 20, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated battery, booking reports show. He is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail.

His arrest is in connection to the shooting death of 24-year-old John Buess-Wheeler, of Augusta.

Officer Paul Cruz said police were first dispatched at around 5:45 a.m. Saturday to a shooting at a home in the 1200 block of South Main. They found Buess-Wheeler inside with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

A second shooting victim drove himself to a hospital, Cruz said. The 25-year-old man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined there was a fight among the three men, and the suspected killer shot his gun during the fight, hitting the other two people. Police believe the incident was drug-related.

Police arrested the suspect at the home.

Booking reports show Soliman lived in the house where the shooting happened.
