Anonymous donation ups reward in Wichita unsolved homicide
Crime Stoppers is offering more money than usual for information that leads to an arrest in an unsolved homicide from February.
An anonymous donor is putting up $5,000 for the tip that solves 27-year-old Hector Ortega’s death case, Wichita police Officer Kevin Wheeler said Friday. Crime Stoppers’ typical cash reward for arrests in felony cases is up to $2,500.
Anonymous tips can be left at 316-267-2111, www.wichitasedgwickcountycrimestoppers.com or on the P3 mobile app.
Ortega was found with a single gunshot wound to his head in the 1100 block of South Fern, a residential neighborhood near McCormick and Seneca, on Feb. 24. He was in a 2018 Honda Accord parked on the street outside of a home where a party was being held. Police have said an argument on the street led to the shooting.
Ortega died at a Wichita hospital. To date, no one responsible has been caught.
Police are seeking “solid leads to bring charges,” Wheeler said.
“We know there were several people in attendance at the party that morning,” Detective Michelle Palmer said in a news release. “We are looking for information that will help us solve this case to bring the individuals responsible to justice and help bring closure to the family.”
