A Wichita teen took a gun to school. Someone left a tip about it with security staff

Wichita police say a 16-year-old boy is facing the possibility of criminal charges after he took a handgun to his high school Thursday.

Someone left an anonymous tip about it with Wichita public schools Board of Education security staff around 10:30 a.m., leading to the teen’s arrest at North High, Officer Charley Davidson said.

Police say the teen — a student — had the handgun inside of the school, 1437 N. Rochester, but there were no threats made to his classmates or of violence on campus or disruptions reported.

Security staff and North High’s Wichita police school resource officer followed up on the anonymous tip and arrested the teen on campus.

They also found the handgun, Davidson said, adding that the case will be turned over to prosecutors who will decide whether to file formal charges.
