Arrest made in Wichita shooting in Midtown
Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a shooting that occurred near Broadway on Wednesday morning.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 700 block of North Waco, arrest records show. He was arrested on suspicion of shooting a 41-year-old man during an argument just east of Broadway on 10th Street at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Lt. James Espinoza said.
The victim was shot in the arm and chest and underwent surgery at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, police have said. The victim was in serious condition Thursday but is expected to recover, Espinoza said.
The man who was arrested is a documented gang member and the victim is not, he said. Investigators are still looking for a second suspect in the shooting.
They have not been able to interview the victim, Espinoza said, and it’s not yet clear what prompted the shooting. The victim has claimed he was just walking in the area when he was shot in the 200 block of East 10th, according to a police report on the incident, but authorities have said there was some type of altercation prior to shots being fired.
