As robberies spike during holidays, Wichita police investigating if 5 are connected
Wichita police “tend to see an increase of robberies” during the holiday season, Officer Charley Davidson said, and now just two weeks into November, police are investigating if five armed robberies are connected.
Those five robberies all occurred in less than 48 hours, Davidson said during Monday’s news briefing. They are all unsolved.
The first three armed robberies all occurred on Monday, the Eagle previously reported.
A fourth armed robbery was reported at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday at the Arby’s in the 1100 block of South Rock, Davidson said. An employee said a robber came inside the restaurant while armed with a handgun. He then demanded money, police said.
The robber took money and ran way. The robber was described to police as a white man, about 6-feet-2 inches tall and he had a heavy build. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the hood pulled up, black gloves and a white mask.
In the fifth reported robbery, police were called to the Kwik Shop in the 700 block of West 29th Street North, Davidson said. The call came in at 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
An employee told officers that two robbers armed with handguns entered the store and demanded money. They took money before running away.
Police described the first robber as a man wearing red and white pants and a red face cover. He had gloves, a gray jacket and a black handgun. The second robber was described as a man wearing all black, gloves and a white face cover. He also had a black handgun.
If you have any tips regarding the robberies, contact Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or police detectives at 316-268-4407. No injuries were reported in any of the armed robberies.
