Wichita shooting not thought to be related to fatal shooting in Haysville, police say
A shooting in south Wichita on Monday that left a man in serious condition is no longer thought to be connected to a Haysville shooting over the weekend that killed one man, police say.
Wichita police said Monday that the vehicle involved in the shooting was possibly connected to the shooting in Haysville, based on information shared between agencies. On Tuesday, Capt. Brent Allred said that is no longer the case.
Emergency crews were dispatched to a reported shooting at Harry and Market at around 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
Two men in a black SUV got into an argument with a 23-year-old man. The passenger in the SUV fired one shot that hit the man in the chest, Allred said. He was in the hospital Tuesday morning and is expected to survive.
The owner of a black Lincoln Navigator police say is thought to be the vehicle used in the shooting was arrested Monday. Franklin Landis, 30, was arrested in the 1000 block of North Volutsia in north Wichita on an unrelated outstanding warrant, Allred said.
Sedgwick County jail records show Landis was booked on suspicion of drug possession at 2 a.m. on Tuesday. His bond was set at $5,000.
The suspected shooter is still at large, Allred said. Wichita police are seeking the public’s help locating a white male in his 20s with a red and blue tattoo under his left eye.
Limited information has been released about the shooting in Haysville.
Haysville police have said they were called to the 1900 block of East Diedrich at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday. Officers saw a “large crowd leaving a party at a local venue after a fight had broken out,” then found a man who had died after he was shot.
Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call police detectives at 316-268-4407 or Wichita-Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
