Police think south Wichita shooting could be connected to Haysville homicide
Wichita police think a Monday afternoon shooting that left one man with critical injuries may be connected to a weekend homicide in Haysville.
Emergency crews were dispatched to a reported shooting at Harry and Market, about a block west of the Broadway intersection, at around 5:45 p.m. Monday. A dispatch supervisor said one person was in critical condition.
Officers found a man in his 20s who had been shot once in his chest, Sgt. Robert Henning said. The man was awake and alert when he was taken to a hospital.
“We believe that he was on the sidewalk with his friends and was flagged over to the vehicle for some reason, a disturbance happened and he was shot,” Henning said.
Witnesses provided police with a description of the vehicle involved. Police did not describe the vehicle to media.
The vehicle involved in the shooting is possibly connected to a weekend homicide in Haysville, based on information from other agencies, Henning said.
Haysville police have said they were called to the 1900 block of east Diedrich at around 1:45 a.m. Sunday. Officers saw a “large crowd leaving a party at a local venue after a fight had broken out,” then found a man who had died after he was shot.
Police do not know if the man lives in the area of the shooting. Crime scene tape surrounded the front yard of a house and stretched across the street toward Harry Street Elementary.
