Man suspected of driving under the influence crashes into sheriff’s deputies vehicles
A suspected drunk or drugged driver crashed into sheriff’s deputies’ vehicles while the deputies were assisting with traffic control at a Wednesday morning wreck in Wichita, officials said.
Emergency crews were called to a crash with injuries at Pawnee and Seneca Wednesday morning, and Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies assisted Wichita police officers with traffic control, sheriff’s Lt. Tim Myers said in a release.
A vehicle driven by Charles S. Grant drove through the intersection “at a high rate of speed” at around 7:52 a.m., crashing into two civilian vehicles and two law enforcement vehicles, Myers said. There were no injuries reported in the second crash.
Grant, 39, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia, the sheriff’s office release said. He was no longer in the Sedgwick County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon, jail records show.
