He took brass knuckles to a drug deal. A bullet fragment hit him in the face, cops say

A man who was hit in the face by bullet fragments after shots were fired Thursday during a drug deal was arrested because he had illegal brass knuckles, cops said.

Wichita police were called to a reported shooting in the 2700 block of North Arkansas at around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, Officer Charley Davidson said. They found shell casings and blood in a parking lot, and crime scene tape blocked off the entrances to the Evergreen Apartments.

A 30-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were found in the 2600 block of North Jackson, about three blocks away, Davidson said. The woman had two bullet graze wounds to both of her legs and the man had bullet fragment injuries to his face.

Emergency responders had originally reported the woman to be in critical condition with a gunshot wound. But both were taken to a hospital, treated and released Thursday night, Davidson said.

Police then arrested the man because he had illegal brass knuckles, Davidson said.

Investigators determined that the man and woman went to the apartment parking lot in a red SUV to purchase methamphetamine. A silver SUV met them for the preplanned drug deal. Davidson said that a disturbance ensued during the transaction and multiple shots were fired.

Booking reports show Marcos Aguilar, 28, was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully carrying a weapon in connection to the case.
