Shell casings and blood were found in the north Wichita parking lot where a woman was shot before she was taken to a hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Police were called to the Evergreen Apartments at 27th North and Arkansas at 5:17 p.m. Thursday for a reported shooting, a dispatch supervisor said. When emergency crews arrived, they were not immediately able to find a victim.

About 30 minutes later paramedics reported that they were taking a 30-year-old woman who was in critical condition to a hospital after she had been shot in her leg. She was found in the area of 25th North and Jackson, about four blocks away from the apartment.

Police had crime scene tape blocking off the entrances to Evergreen Apartments. Children played across the street at Evergreen Park.

The last officers left the scene just after 7:40 p.m. Police did not brief media at the scene.

Officer Charley Davidson told The Eagle about an hour later that officers found shell casings and blood in the parking lot of the apartment building. A man and woman were taken to the hospital, treated for their injuries and released.

When asked if police have identified a suspect, he said it is an ongoing investigation. He said police do not think it was a random incident. More information is expected to be released at the 10 a.m. Friday police media briefing.

Davidson asked anyone with information on the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
