Wichita police arrest man in kidnapping case that ended at QuikTrip
Wichita police have arrested a man who is suspected of kidnapping a woman at gunpoint and forcing her to drive him to several locations before she escaped at an QuikTrip in Old Town.
Police said a 24-year-old woman met with a stranger about 6 p.m. Monday at a Jimmy Johns in the 500 block of North Hillside to sell a ring. The sale had been set up through Facebook.
Once there, a man got in her car and pulled out a handgun, forcing her to drive him to several unknown locations, Officer Charley Davidson said. It wasn’t until about two hours later that they pulled into a QuikTrip in the 1000 block of East Douglas, where the woman went into the convenience store and had a clerk call 911.
The man ran before police arrived.
A 32-year-old man was arrested near McCormick and Meridian about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Broadway corridor team, Davidson said.
Booking reports show Miguel David Ibanez was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, aggravated robbery and outstanding warrants at a Valero gas station in the 800 block of South Meridian.
There were no injuries, Davidson said.
