Acting on a tip, police arrested Jose Cruz in south Wichita early Friday morning following a car chase, authorities said.

Police have been looking for Cruz, 35, since he sneaked away from officers in April while being examined for purported chest pains at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis. At the time of his arrest this spring, Cruz had been wanted on three Wichita bench warrants, including one related to a domestic sexual assault, police have said. Hospital security footage caught him walking out of Via Christi at around 5:30 p.m. on April 25.

Cruz was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at 3:33 a.m. Friday, online jail records show. He’s being held on suspicion of rape, aggravated burglary, aggravated escape from custody, aggravated child endangerment, several traffic violations, possession of stolen property and other crimes.
