A man riding a bicycle early Thursday in south Wichita was robbed and beaten with a metal pipe, according to police.

Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said a 55-year-old man reported that he was in the 1400 block of South Topeka, near Harry and Broadway, at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday when he was confronted by four suspects.

One of the suspects struck the bicyclist in the head with a metal pipe, Woodrow said, and another had a handgun. The man received minor injuries, Woodrow said, and was treated at a local hospital and released.

The suspects, all males, left with the victim’s cellphone and $5. The suspects left the scene, the victim reported, in a silver Honda vehicle with a yellow tag.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery or who has information on the crime is asked to contact the Wichita Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Tips can also be submitted by using the Crime Stoppers mobile app.
