Sedgwick County’s chief deputy district attorney to retire
Sedgwick County’s chief deputy district attorney is retiring after 32 years of service.
Kim Parker’s final day with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office is Dec. 30. A public reception will be held in her honor from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 22 on the third floor of the historic Sedgwick County Courthouse, 510 N. Main in Wichita.
Parker first joined the District Attorney’s Office as an intern in 1982 while it was under the leadership of Clark Owens. She later worked under Nola Foulston and Marc Bennett, the county’s current district attorney.
Among notable defendants Parker prosecuted are former death-row inmate Stanley Elms; brothers Jonathan and Reginald Carr, who sexually assaulted and shot five people execution-style in a frozen soccer field in 2000; Scott Roeder, who murdered physician and abortion provider George Tiller; and BTK serial killer Dennis Rader.
She also briefly served as a Sedgwick County District Court judge in 1996 and is a member of Kansas’ State Child Death Review Board.
