Man, woman in critical condition after shooting on 109th Street
Two people were taken to a local hospital in critical condition following a shooting reported Friday near 109th Street North and 63rd Street East.
A Sedgwick County dispatcher said a man and a woman, possibly in their 40s, suffered gunshot wounds, although where the pair were shot on their bodies was not released. Authorities received the shooting report around 9:15 p.m., the dispatcher said, in the 5900 block of East 109th Street North. That’s north and east of Wichita, between Oliver and Woodlawn. The location given is a Valley Center address.
A Sedgwick County sheriff’s lieutenant at the scene late Friday night declined to give any details about what transpired, instead referring media inquires to a captain in the agency’s investigations unit. She said that deputies would be blocking 109th Street in the area throughout the night and that no one would be allowed on the property where the shooting victims were found.
From the intersection of 109th and Oliver, law enforcement cars from multiple agencies, including the sheriff’s office, Park City Police and the Wichita Police Department, could be seen leaving the scene. At least two paramedic vehicles also turned south onto Oliver off of 109th Street before midnight. A helicopter circled overhead, at times shining a spotlight toward the ground.
As of midnight, authorities had not given updated conditions on the two wounded people. They also did not disclose their exact ages nor how they were found.
Additional information is expected to be released in the coming days. Check Kansas.com for updates as they become available.
