The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office collected 1,127 pounds of expired or unwanted drugs during its drug take back event on Saturday, according to a news release.
The free event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration as a way to prevent drug diversion or misuse by taking medications away from the home where children, other family members or friends can access them.
Residents drop off prescription and over-the-counter medications at three locations around the county for the drugs to be safely disposed of.
People should not throw medication in the trash and should not flush medication down the toilet.
