The city employee who fell 20 to 30 feet at the municipal pump station next to Cheney Reservoir last week remains in critical condition, Wichita police said Monday afternoon.

Officials had earlier said he died Monday morning, but that information was incorrect, Lt. James Espinoza said.

A co-worker found Daniel Olmsted, 59, shortly before 2 a.m. on Feb. 3 at the pump station at 39500 W. 21st St., according to a police document. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis.

Olmsted worked the day shift. Alan King, director of public works and utilities, said last week “it could have been hours” between when Olmsted fell and when he was found.

The city’s risk management team was reviewing the incident, King said last week, but no results of that investigation have been released.
