Infant struck in head with piggy bank out of hospital
The infant who suffered skull fractures and bleeding on the brain after being struck with a piggy bank last week has been released from the hospital and placed into protective custody, Wichita police said.
The 2-month-old girl was being held by her 50-year-old grandfather while he was napping in bed when the man’s 38-year-old wife came into their bedroom in the 2100 block of East Lockwood on Jan. 5 and confronted him because she thought he was having an affair, police have said.
She picked up the large plastic piggy bank and threw it at her husband, who deflected it with his arm. The piggy bank then hit the infant. The child was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment.
Charges have not been filed in the incident, Lt. James Espinoza said. The case remains under investigation.
