Woman killed in turnpike crash near Haysville identified
A 63-year-old Wichita woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash on the Kansas Turnpike on Wednesday night.
According to a turnpike accident report, Phanh Sonephila was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V that had been partially disabled in a prior crash.
A 26-year-old Wichita man driving a 2007 Hyundai Azera struck the slow-moving CR-V shortly before 10:15 p.m., according to the report.
Sonephila was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The crash was reported in the northbound lanes of the Kansas Turnpike, near mile marker 39. That’s near Haysville.
The man, identified as Jacob Donlay, was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in serious condition. A hospital supervisor said Donlay sustained a femur fracture and will require surgery.
All northbound turnpike lanes were blocked for about four hours Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
The lanes were reopened around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to a tweet from the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
