Police: Dark clothing, poor lighting factors in pedestrian being hit by car

Police are still waiting to talk to the pedestrian who was struck by a car Thursday night in south Wichita.

A 31-year-old man was hit by a four-door Nissan sedan at about 7 p.m. in the 4900 block of East Harry, Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s just east of Oliver.

The victim had called his sister and asked for a ride for him and a 39-year-old woman, Espinoza said. She had parked on the south side of Harry and her brother tried to cross from the north when he was hit by the westbound Nissan.

He was taken to a hospital, where he is in serious condition, Espinoza said Friday. The victim was wearing dark clothes and crossed in a poorly lit area not close to a crosswalk or intersection, he said.

“More than likely, the driver did not see him,” Espinoza said.

The driver stopped after the collision and was interviewed by police.
