Wichita infant hospitalized in Kansas City dies
The 8-week-old Wichita girl who has been in critical condition since being brought to the hospital because she was not breathing last week has died, police said Tuesday.
The infant, who lived with her parents in the 1000 block of North Market, died Monday night at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. She had been in Kansas City for treatment since last Tuesday.
Doctors in Wichita initially suspected a medical condition, but further tests in Kansas City following her transfer revealed injuries consistent with abuse, police have said. The case remains under investigation, Espinoza said, and no arrests have been made.
