Woman charged in Batman robberies at Wichita stores

A woman accused of robbing local convenience stores while wearing a blue Batman mask was charged Wednesday with two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.

Hailey Kathlene Baughman, 22, of Wichita, listened as a Sedgwick County judge advised her of the felony charges during her first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. She is charged with stealing cash and cigarettes or demanding the items at three Wichita gas stations over a three-day period last week. The final robbery attempt, at Phamily Express at 1203 E. Pawnee, was stopped Saturday when a clerk pulled a gun from behind the counter.

Police arrested Baughman and a 23-year-old man driving a car at short time later. Her alleged accomplice, Justin D. Allen, also is charged with robbery and attempted robbery, and faces a count of possessing syringes, spoons and a glass pipe for drug use, according to court documents.

District Judge Joe Kisner on Wednesday set $25,000 bonds for the couple, who claimed to be unemployed and common-law spouses in court filings. They are due back in court Nov. 25.
