Police: Second convenience store robbed by woman in Batman mask

A woman wearing a Batman mask may have robbed two convenience stores in two days.

The last caper occurred at 9:15 p.m. Friday at the Maize Food Mart west of Kellogg and Maize, Sgt. John Hoofer said Saturday.

A 22-year-old clerk reported that a woman wearing a blue Batman mask came into the store demanding money.

“The clerk asked if she was kidding,” and the woman said she wasn’t, Hoofer said.

No one was hurt.

The masked woman, described as about 5 feet 6 inches and 175 pounds, left southbound. She had brown hair and was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

On Thursday, a woman wearing a blue Batman mask entered the Friends Corner convenience store at 1131 E. 47th St. South at about 3:20 p.m. and demanded money and cigarettes from the clerk, Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder said. The clerk complied with the demand.

The robber, who never indicated she had a weapon, was wearing a blue Batman mask with pointed ears and a blue tie-dyed shirt, the clerk told police. She was about 5-feet-7 and had a medium build.

Hoofer said it was possible the two robberies were related. The suspect descriptions are similar, he said. Police still are investigating both cases.
