A 19-year-old Wichita man died early Sunday morning in a high-speed, single-car crash near Bel Aire, authorities said.

Israel Nava was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving measures, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

“According to a preliminary investigation, Nava was traveling northbound on Greenwich Road when he left the roadway, striking a street sign, a fire hydrant and an electrical box before the vehicle rolled multiple times. Witnesses estimated Nava’s speed exceeded 100 mph,” the release says.

“Deputies are also determining whether impairment contributed to the crash.”

Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received an iPhone crash detection alert around 1:44 a.m. Sunday coming from the 3200 block of North Greenwich. Deputies and Bel Aire police officers were sent to the location when 911 communications couldn’t reach Nava.

When law enforcement arrived, they found Nava ejected from a wrecked Honda Accord, the release says. He was the only person who had been in the car.
