A Wichita Police Department vehicle is seen Wednesday, July 8, 2026, near the intersection of Pawnee and McLean. Police were called to the area Wednesday morning after a report of two people who weren’t breathing.

Two people were found dead near a bridge in south Wichita on Wednesday, according to the Wichita Police Department.

In a video posted to the department’s Facebook page, Wichita police spokesman Andrew Ford said two males, including a 57-year-old, were pronounced dead near a bridge at Pawnee and McLean at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Ford said the deaths appeared to be related to drug overdoses. The identities of the man and the other person had not been released by early Wednesday afternoon.

Ford said a man alerted police that he noticed two people who were unconscious under the bridge about 9:50 a.m. Emergency services personnel later pronounced the two dead.

Ford said the wife of the 57-year-old man was at the scene after police were called.

“We do not believe that foul play is a part of this at this time,” Ford said in the video. “Once we’re able to identify the second male, we will provide an update to the community.”
