As new houses and businesses go up just outside Wichita, its suburbs have continued to grow while the city’s population has stayed relatively the same in the last five years.

Whether people have moved to Wichita’s outskirts for housing, jobs, schools or other reasons, the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that two west suburbs have experienced the most growth from 2020 to 2025.

In April 2020, the population of Maize was estimated to be 5,739, according to the Census Bureau. By July 2025, it was estimated to be 7,853. That means the city saw a roughly 36% increase in that timeframe. Goddard saw about 30% growth, from 5,090 in 2020 to an estimated 6,638 in July 2025.

In comparison, Wichita grew .85% in population in that same time frame, increasing to 400,987 from 397,589.
