A city south of Wichita has been named the third-safest city in the state by one online ranking.

Security research company Safewise released its 10 safest cities in Kansas ranking, and Mulvane, home of the Kansas Star Casino, was close to the top.

With a population of about 7,000, Mulvane gained the third place recognition with a violent crime rate of 0.6 in 2025 and a property crime rate of 11.1, according to the ranking. And Mulvane is not the only Wichita suburb to make the ranking.

Bel Aire, a north Wichita suburb, earned the fifth-place spot with a violet crime rate of 1.4 in 2025 and a property crime rate of 8.7. Bel Aire has a population of just under 10,000.

Where the safey data comes from

Safewise uses FBI data on violent crime and property crime to compile the rankings. The company adjusts the data depending on population and does not use any incomplete data reported to agencies, the website says.

“Our goal is to help readers understand crime trends and ask informed questions, not to judge communities or the people who call them home,” the report reads.

According to the ranking, all 10 cities that made the list reported less than 2 violent crime incidents per 100 people. There’s only one city on the ranking that is not in a metropolitan area, with the majority of cities being a suburb of either Wichita or Kansas City.
