Grammy-winning guitarist returning home to Wichita in November
Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh will perform at Intrust Bank Arena Nov. 15.
Walsh is returning to his hometown for his annual concert supporting veterans, he announced Friday with an appearance at Intrust Bank Arena.
Walsh had previously said he was coming to Wichita in an Instagram post in May, but had not released the venue or the rest of the lineup.
Walsh will play Nov. 15 with fellow Eagles member Vince Gill, along with Ryan Bingham And The Texas Gentlemen, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks and Nathaniel Rateliff.
Walsh started the event in 2017 to raise money for various organizations that support veterans, a cause he said is important to him because he comes from a Gold Star family and has had friends serve, and die, in the military. The organization has given out more than $4 million in grants.
Gold Star family refers to the families of military members who died in service.
“Back in 1949 there was no designation for Gold Star families when my father was killed in active duty on Okinawa,” Walsh said. “My mother was just a 21-year-old army widow with a one-year-old back here in Wichita. I never got to know my father, and he never got to know me.”
Tickets sales start Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. at selectaseat.com. More information is at vetsaid.com. “I’ve also got some more surprises up my sleeve,” Walsh said.
