A man died when the car he was driving rear-ended a semi truck north of Wichita shortly before noon on Saturday, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The collision happened around 11:38 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-135 near the 53rd street exit in Park City. Damian Connor, 23, of Whitewater, was heading southbound on I-135 at “highway speeds” in a 2007 Nissan Altima, according to the report.

The report says traffic was stopped before the incident.

“Due to congested and heavy traffic, vehicles were completely stopped at I-135 southbound at milepost 13.2 (53rd street),” the crash logs says.

A semi-struck pulling a trailer was stopped in the right lane of I-135 when Connor applied the brakes but failed to stop on time on the wet road and struck the trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the log.

The driver of the semi truck, 34-year-old Simon Rogers of Covington, Georgia, was not injured, the log said.
