‘We will really get a taste of the summer heat’: Here’s how hot it will be this week
Sunday’s summer heat is expected to continue for the next several days, with high temperatures right around 100 on Monday.
Heat index values are forecast to sit between 100 and 105. The heat index is what the temperature feels like when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature, according to the National Weather Service.
Although temperatures are expected to remain high, there is some heat relief in the form of a breeze, National Weather Service meteorologist Vanessa Pearson says.
“We’re expecting it [heat] to be a little drier, so it’ll be a little less humid. That’s why the heat index values aren’t expected to be as high even though the temperature is expected to be higher tomorrow,” Pearson said in a phone interview.
Sunday’s temperatures hovered right underneath 100, while heat index values sat between 105 to 110.
Breezy afternoon wind conditions will deliver a cooling effect as they pass through the Wichita area at 25 to 30 mph. Those wind speeds will continue into the evening as well, Pearson says.
“The wind can definitely make a difference in how it can feel when you’re sweating and then the wind comes by and it can help with the process of cooling off,” Pearson said.
Temperatures for mid-week, Tuesday through Thursday, will descend to the mid-90s. “This week we will really get a taste of that summer heat,” Pearson says.
Overnight temps throughout the week are forecast to be in the mid- to upper-70s.
Here’s what the temperatures are forecast to look like throughout the week:
▪ Monday: high, 100; low, 79; wind speed, 23 to 28 mph
▪ Tuesday: high, 96; low, 77; wind speed, 18 mph
▪ Wednesday: high, 94; low, 72
▪ Thursday: high, 94; low, 70
▪ Friday: high, 92; low, 70
▪ Saturday: high, 93; low, 72
