The advisory will remain in effect until 8 p.m. for portions of central, south central and and southeast Kansas. A weather report says the hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat-related illnesses to occur.

Other cities included in the advisory are Hutchinson, Newton, El Dorado, Augusta, Andover, Rose Hill, Derby, Haysville, Bel Aire, Park City, Valley Center, Winfield and Ark City.

A detailed weather forecast shows the high temperatures will continue until Tuesday, hovering around or passing the 100-degree mark.

The National Weather Service recommends residents take these precautions:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms and stay out of the sun.

Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles.

Know the signs, symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and call 911.

Reschedule activities to early morning or evening.

Wear lightweight, loose fitting clothing when possible.

If you must work outside, take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas.
