A Winfield man was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning with serious injuries after crawling under a stationary train that began moving, according to a police news release.

Winfield police and fire EMS responded around 9:20 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian being struck on the train tracks in the 500 block of Main Street, the release read.

Emergency personnel found a 62-year-old man with serious injuries to his lower body. Winfield EMS began medical treatment on the man, and he was later taken a Wichita hospital, the release said.

Authorities believe that the man attempted “to crawl underneath the train while it was stationary, and when the train began moving this is when the accident and subsequent injuries occurred,” the release said.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities think this was an accident. Winfield police say they do not have an update on the man’s condition.
