The Museum of World Treasures was closed on Monday after smoke crept in from a fire next to the space on Sunday evening.

It plans to reopen Tuesday.

The fire, outside of the space where the former Heroes bar operated, resulted in smoke odors in the museum next door, according to a news release.

No museum items were damaged, but some smoke odor lingered. Museum staff are conducting restoration measures to clear the odors, said Kristin Martin, programs director for the museum.

Any minor damage was limited to the exterior of the building.

Wichita Fire battalion chief Jose Ocadiz said the fire started after a mattress that was outside behind of the former Heroes building caught on fire. Initial damage costs for the building sit at $20,000 and the contents inside at $5,000, Ocadiz said.
