A 58-year-old Wichita man who crashed into the Arkansas River during a heart attack has died, according to Wichita police spokesperson Chad Ditch.

Police responded to a vehicle submersion around 9:25 a.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of South McLean, which is near Pawnee, and found Christopher Cotter unconscious in a Lexus ES250. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Ditch said Cotter was headed east on Pawnee when he had a heart attack and crashed into the river.

In an email, Ditch said police “won’t know what caused his death until later ... He did not die from the accident itself.”
