A 39-year-old Potwin woman died Wednesday after her car was hit head-on by a vehicle passing other drivers on Kansas Highway 196 in Harvey County.

Sarah Elizabeth Colling was driving a 2008 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on the highway around 6:45 a.m. when a 2016 Honda Pilot driven by a 62-year-old Whitewater woman crashed into her, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report.

After the collision, the 62-year-old woman veered right and hit one of the vehicles — a semitruck towing a trailer — that she was attempting to pass before stopping on the highway. The other vehicle she passed was hit by crash debris.

Colling’s car rolled onto its top in the south ditch, the KHP said. She died from her injuries.

The 62-year-old woman driving the Honda Pilot was hospitalized with “suspected serious injuries,” the KHP crash report says. No one else was hurt.
