Two people are dead after their car crashed into a combine Sunday in Cowley County near Winfield and was engulfed in flames, authorities say.

A Sheriff’s Office blotter says Cowley County deputies and Winfield fire and emergency medical services crews were sent to the collision, in the area of 102nd and 75th roads, around 12:19 p.m. Both people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

The combine driver wasn’t injured.

Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti said in a Monday email that the car was traveling south on 75th Road when it hit the combine, just south of the intersection with 102nd Road.

“The vehicle went underneath the combine and was engulfed by fire,” Falletti wrote. “... An autopsy has been ordered for both (victims) and no positive identification has been made.”

The collision remains under investigation, Falletti said.
